Building
A 40,000 square-foot modern building with a travertine stone exterior. The main level incorporates eight exhibition galleries, a museum shop, a café, an auditorium, and a terrace overlooking the lake. The lower level accommodates a works-on-paper study room, a vault system, a carpentry shop and staff and security offices.
Gardens
Approximately 15 acres of botanical gardens featuring large-scale sculpture, a three-acre lake, and a landscape that incorporates walking paths, benches and water features.
Membership
Exceeded goal to have more than 1,000 members by museum opening October 3, 2003. Currently we have more than 1,500 members.
Permanent Collection
A collection devoted primarily to 19th and 20th century American and European Art. Highlights include The Advancing American Art Collection, The Louise Hauss and David Brent Miller Audubon Collection, a three-tiered Dale Chihuly chandelier, The Nelson and Joan Cousins Hartman Collection of Tibetan Bronzes, The Helen and Dwight Carlisle Collection of Irish Belleek Porcelain, the monumental mural Alma Mater by William Baggett, and the large-scale sculpture Spinoff by Jean Woodham. The Advancing American Art Collection
Collection of 79 oil and 38 watercolor paintings were purchased by the U.S. State Department in 1946 for an overseas traveling exhibition. In 1947, the exhibition was canceled and, in 1948, 117 paintings were auctioned as war surplus. Auburn University purchased 36 paintings for $1,072 including works by such luminaries of the American art scene as Ralston Crawford, Ben Shahn, Georgia O'Keefe, John Marin, Jacob Lawrence, Arthur Dove and Romare Bearden.
Louise Hauss and David Brent Miller Audubon Collection
A collection of 114 of the 19th-century naturalist John James Audubon's most important prints. The collection is particularly rich in prints from Audubon's most famous series-Birds of America.
Bill L. Harbert Collection of European Art
A collection of European art that features six works by Marc Chagall, three by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, two by Salvador Dalí and one each by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Henri Matisse
